Day 1 USA-Beijing
Depart from the USA for Beijing.

Day 2 Beijing
Upon arrival in Beijing, you are met by your local guide and transferred to the Hotel .

Day 3 Beijing (B,L)
After breakfast. visit Tiananmen Square, then enter the Forbidden City, home of Chinese Emperors for more than 500 years. After lunch, visit the Temple of Heaven, one of the best examples of Ming Dynasty architecture in Beijing. Attend a welcome banquet featuring Beijing Roast Duck in the evening.

Day 4 Beijing (B,L)
The highlight today is an excursion to the Great Wall at Badaling. Enjoy the dramatic vistas and marvel at the Wall as it climbs and descends steep ridges and narrow valleys. After lunch, visit the Summer Palace, where the Empress Dowager Ci Xi would go to escape the heat of the city.

Day 5 Beijing-Chongqing (B,L)
After breakfast, enjoy a pedicab tour of the Hutongs, the "old city" neighborhood of narrow alleyways and courtyard gardens hidden behind Beijing's modern facade. Visit Prince Gong's Palace, the Drum Tower, and old-style courtyard houses still inhabited by Beijing residents. Transfer to the airport for your afternoon flight to Chongqing. You'll be met at the airport and transferred to the harbor, where you will board your Cruises.

Day 6 Yangtze River (B,L,D)
Begin your cruise down the mighty Yangtze River. Relax in the lounge or on deck as you cruise past some of the most magnificent scenery anywhere. This afternoon you'll enjoy a shore excursion to Shibaozhai, or Precious Stone Stronghold. Built during the Qing Dynasty in 1650, this bright red 12-story pagoda is built against a sheer cliff overlooking the river.

Day 7 Yangtze River (B,L,D)
This morning you'll cruise through the spectacular Qutang Gorge, narrowest and most dramatic of the Three Gorges, with limestone peaks rising over 4,000 feet. Today's shore excursion is to the Lesser Three Gorges, where you'll travel along one of the Yangtze's tributaries. Pass through steep, scenic gorges previously inaccessible to tourists, and view historical sites such as the 2000 year old hanging coffins of the Ba people, and an ancient plank road carved into the side of a cliff. In the afternoon continue through the Wu Gorge, noted for its sheer cliffs and 12 cloud covered mountains including Goddess Peak, which legends say protects the boatmen of the river from 12 dragons.

Day 8 Yangtze River (B,L,D)
This morning you'll cruise through the Three Gorges Dam's 5-stage locks. At 1.3 miles wide and 610 feet tall, this is the world's largest dam. During this afternoon's shore excursion you'll get a birds-eye view of the entire project. Return to the ship and cruise through the Xiling Gorge, noted for its narrow, steep cliffs and swirling rapids.

Day 9 Yangtze River (B,L,D)
This morning's shore excursion is to the walled city of Jingzhou, capital of the Kingdom of Chu from 770-476 BC. While here you'll visit a school which is being sponsored by Viking River Cruises, and where you'll be warmly greeted by the children and staff.

Day 10 Yangtze River (B,L,D)
This morning you'll enjoy a shore excursion to the city of Wuhan, where you'll pay a visit to the Hubei Provincial Museum. One of the highlights of the museum is its collection of artifacts unearthed from the Zenghouyi Tomb, dating to 433 BC during the Warring States Period. Included is a set of 64 elaborate bronze bells with intricate carvings and figures; you may have the opportunity to hear traditional Chinese music performed on a replica of the bells.

Day 11 Yangtze River (B,L,D)
Today's shore excursion is to Jingdezhen, an ancient town which has been a major producer of porcelain since the 12th century. While here you'll visit the Jingdezhen Porcelain Museum, with exquisite examples of porcelain from the Song, Ming and Qing dynasties.

Day 12 Yangtze River (B,L,D)
This afternoon you'll take pleasure in a shore excursion to Jihuashan, most picuresque mountain in southeast China. Mt. Jihua is one of four sacred Buddhist mountains in China; while here you will tour one of the many Buddhist temples.

Day 13 Yangtze River (B,L,D)
This morning you'll enjoy a shore excursion to the historically significant city of Nanjing. You'll visit the ancient city wall, dating to the 14th century during the Ming Dynasty. Originally measuring over 33 kms, with about two thirds of it still standing, it is the longest city wall ever built in the world. You'll also stop at the Folk Art Museum before returning to the ship.

Day 14 Shanghai (B,L)
Arrive Wu Song Kou early this morning. Disembark after breakfast and drive 1-1-2 hours to Shanghai where you'll check into the Hotel . This afternoon visit The Bund, famous promenade along the Huangpu River, and Nanjing Road, the bustling heart of Shanghai. Tonight's farewell dinner is arranged at a special restaurant.

Day 15 Shanghai-USA (B)
At leisure until you transfer to the airport for your flight back to the USA.
