Cangshan Mountain 苍山

Cangshan Mountain, also called Dian Cang Mountain or Holy Golden Eagle Mountain, is located to the northwest of Dali and is the largest peak in the southern end of the Yunlin Mountain range. Cangshan Mountain is located next to Erhai Lake in the east, and the Black Hui River in the west. The mountain has nineteen spectacular peaks, most of which have an altitude of more than 3,500 meters. These peaks stretch like an imposing barrier from the south to the north, and the magnificent summit, Malong Peak, has an altitude of 4,122 meters and is covered with snow all year round. The Chinese have a saying: “even in mid-summer the snow will not melt”. One of the most wonderfully unique and intriguing aspects about Cangshan Mountain is that there is a brook between every two peaks, totaling eighteen brooks in all. They run down from the peaks and then flow east, ending their journey in Erhai Lake. It is no surprise that the four wonders on Cangshan Mountain are Cloud, Snow, Peak and Brook.
There are more than 3,000 kinds of plants on the mountain, making it one of the most valued places in China for plant resources.
In addition, many sights at the foot of Cangshan Mountain feature the culture of the Bai ethnic minority. They include the Chongsheng Temple and Three Pagodas, Buddhist Picture Tower, Inaction Temple, Taoxi Zhonghe Temple, Nine Dragon Virgin Pool, Three Pools of the Clear Green Temple and Enlightenment Temple.
Tips: 1. Cangshan Mountain is famous for marble decorations, which are sale at the base of the mountain.  2. For a fantastic bird’s eye view at Dali and Erhai Lake, ride one of the cable cars to the summit.  3. As the climb up to the top of Cangshan Mountain is quite steep and strenuous, it is advisable to take a cable car up and down the mountain.  4. An efficient and convenient way to see all the attractions Dali has to offer is to follow the tourism road that has been built to connect all the points of interest in the area.
